
Volunteer job descriptions
The Region 3 Championships are successful, in part, due to our outstanding volunteer committee. Here are some places where you could help us this year.
1. Paddock-This person will check in exhibitors and begin to line them up by working order. This person will check to see which class/es exhibitor is in (Region 3 only, AQHA only, or both). This person will be able to add or scratch exhibitors and must have contact with the office and announcer. This person will need to make barn calls for classes and missing exhibitors,
2. Chute-This person will line class up for entry into the arena in working order. We usually divide the chute with cones for entrance and exit lines.
3. Gate- This person directs the exhibitor to starting place for pattern and if necessary will open and close gate.
4. Office- This person will work with the show secretary to get working orders together. This person will post those working orders in the paddock area. Also, will post all patterns to be used that day. This person will help the paddock get info on adds and scratches to show secretary.
5. Awards- This person will aid the Awards chair in seeing that all the awards for the day at the awards area in the coliseum. A person or more will need to help the awards chair on Monday and Tuesday to prepare the awards (unpack and organize). Also, help will be needed on Sunday to pack all the extra awards that will have to be shipped back to AQHA.
6. Banners-All of the AQHA sponsors will have banners and they must be placed in the coliseum on Monday or Tuesday. Also, banners are put in the paddock area and in new arena. On Sunday after the show all of the banners must be taken down and boxed.
7. Trail Set up- This will take place on late Tuesday afternoon. Usually only a small number of people are needed for this.
8. Trail Reset and Rake- This is needed on Wednesday during the trail classes.
9. Jump Set up- This usually occurs on Wednesday night after the show. This takes a couple of hours and mostly involves heavy lifting.
10. Jump Reset- This is someone who will replace knocked down poles. This is a Thursday morning project.
Note: For trail and jump take down, we ask people to help and provide them T-shirts for helping, we have always many helpers.
11. Silent Auction- This person will be responsible for getting items for the auction, supervising the auction and collecting the bid sheets. This person will collect the money or will provide the show secretary with a list so that bills can be placed on tabs.
12. Exhibitors’ party- This person generally oversees the party making sure there enough tables and chairs contacts cater and sets menu etc.
13. Ice Cream Social- This usually takes 3 or 4 people mostly to scoop ice cream. One person will need to get the ice cream. It generally last no more than couple of hours on one of the afternoons.
14. Watermelon Feed- This usually takes 3 or 4 people mostly to cut watermelon and serve. One person will need to get the watermelons. It generally takes no more than a couple hours on one of the afternoons.
15. Equipment haulers- This would be on Monday and Tuesday to help people move into their stalls. This depends on the number of “gators” we can get.
